Merry Russian Christmas in Nice (Dec 5th to Jan 6th)

This year Christmas will be Russian in Nice. Place Masséna is more beautiful than ever with somptuous tentlike decorations and very pretty lightings on the building’s walls. To fully appreciate it wait until 5PM when it gets dark and you will not be disappointed I promise.

Also enjoy as usual le Marché de Noël, great for last minute shopping, the ice rink for an ice skating lesson and the ferris wheel for the view. More information here.

Cette anné Noël est Russe à Nice. La place Masséna est somptueuse avec des décorations en forme de tentes et des jeux de lumière projetés sur les façades des batiments. Pour en profiter pleinement il faut attendre la tombée de la nuit vers 17h et je vous promets que vous ne serez pas déçus.

On trouvera aussi comme d’habitude un Marché de Noël, bien pratique pour du shopping dernière minute, une patinoire pour faire un petit tour sur la glace et la grande roue pour admirer la vue de très très haut. Plus d’information ici.

MOMA (Maison Original de Mademoiselle Arboireau), Nice

In the heart of Nice, Valérie Arboireau, designer, and Peter Larsen, artist, open up their house, La MOMA. An vintage “Belle Époque” house rehabilitated into artists workshops, private and public events, and B&B.

An unusual house-shop: All – or almost -is to be sold at the MOMA! Objects found by Valerie, Merry Crystal   creations, works of Peter Larsen. Before the Christmas season, the MOMA opens it doors and you can discover a selection of objects 100% vintage or Made in MOMA!

Les Puces de Nice, Nice vintage

Hey vintage fans I discovered another great shopping stop for you at Les Puces de Nice, Nice official fleamarket a stone throw away from the harbour. I love the quaint little shops selling everything from china plates, to christening dresses and antiques.

Une autre très bonne adresse pour les amateurs de vintage, Les Puces De Nice, le marché aux Puces officiel de la ville de Nice installé à 2 pas du port. On y trouve des petites boutiques qui regorgent de trésors des assiettes en porcelaine, des meubles anciens, des robes de baptême et des vêtements vintage.

My favorite shops (#29 and 30 in the back) are managed by Sophie. Sophie’s enthusiasm is catching, she hunts garages sales and empties attics to offer an awesome collection of items and clothes: Dior and Valentino dresses, Pucci tops, gorgeous gloves and head jewels.

Mes stands préférés (#29 et 30 vers le fond) sont tenus par Sophie. L’enthousiasme de Sophie pour la brocante est contagieux, elle est toujours à la recherche de pièces rares dans les greniers et le brocantes de la région. Chez elle on trouve des robes Dior ou Valentino, des petits hauts en soir Pucci, des gants du soir et de très beau bijoux de tête (enetre autres et selon les arrivages bien sûr).

I found some prettily embroidered fabrics stripes that I used to create an evening headband and also a beautiful sequined flower that will nicely accessorize a plain T-shirt. If you see Sophie, don’t forget to say Hi for me.

La dernière fois j’y ai déniché de très belles bandes de tissu rebrodées que j’ai utilisé pour créer des bandeaux très chics et aussi une joli fleur noire et blanche en perle qui sera parfaite pour accessoiriser un T-Shirt tout simple. Si vous passez la voir, n’oubliez pas de lui dire bonjour de ma part.

If your fairy godmother were to drop by to offer a career switch, she’d probably suggest Anne Davené-Vantalon’s job. What could be better than working as a personal shopper in the most glamorous spots in France, exploring chic boutiques for exquisite treasures—and all on someone else’s credit card?

It’s an occupation designed to make the most of Davené-Vantalon’s natural good taste and enthusiasm for helping others find precisely the right item, whether it be a private villa, a stunning designer gown or simply a tiny but much-loved treat. “One client,” Davené-Vantalon recalls, “contacted me for help in finding a cookie that his wife had particularly loved during a visit to Nice.” His wife’s birthday was coming up and the doting husband wanted to surprise her. The challenge was that he couldn’t remember the name of the bakery. “I searched the city, taking photos of shops and cookies and sending them to him until we found the right one,” Davené-Vantalon smiles. “Then I sent him a box by airmail.”

Davené-Vantalon’s services are customized to meet the needs of her clients. If shopping isn’t on your list of favorite pastimes or if, like our cookie enthusiast, you don’t happen to be in the vicinity, you can provide a list of what you need and your personal shopper will begin searching. “Unless the item requested is of a specific brand, most of my shopping is done at unique, creative multi-brand stores where I can find special items. Although I enjoy shopping for clothing and accessories, what I really love is gift shopping with, or for,my customers!”

Her hunting ground is the most elegant area imaginable—the French Riviera. “I work in Nice, Cannes, Monaco and now Saint-Tropez as well.” Even Davené-Vantalon’s commutes, and those she arranges for the clients who join her on personally guided shopping excursions, are chic. “Although most shopping tours are designed to be easily walkable, I can arrange transportation by car for Nice, Cannes and Monaco and by boat or helicopter for Saint-Tropez. I can also book accommodation in hotels or private villas.” She will, of course, obtain the best table for lunch.

Davené-Vantalon’s service leaves no detail to chance, but is less expensive than one might expect. Personal shopping fees are based on the price of the item purchased, and the amount of research required to find it. Perhaps the most important service Davené-Vantalon offers clients is her graceful entrée to the world’s most exclusive shopping scene. While a newcomer to such ultra-fashionable shops as Chanel, Celine, Hermès, Sonia Rykiel, Prada, Akris, Bottega Veneta and Armani might be intimidated by the often icily elegant shop attendants, Davené-Vantalon will provide a reassuring sense of belonging. She’ll also ensure that you make the most of trends, seasons and celebrations. Our personal shopper advises, for example, that “Saint-Tropez is going to be a very successful shopping attraction, but only during the summer months. Most shops close down by October.”

Caprice Vintage, Vintage in Nice

I can’t start to remember how often I have been asked where one could find vintage clothes and accessories between Monaco and Cannes. There are a number of second-hand shops in the area but none that I truly like. So I really didn’t have the answer until Frédérique told me!

Je n’arrive pas à me souvenir le nombre de fois ou l’on m’a demandé des adresses de magasins vintage pour des vêtements ou des accessoires sur la Côte d’Azur. Il y a bien quelques boutiques de dépot-vente mais rien qui n’vait vraiment attiré mon attention. C’est  Frédérique qui m’a donné la réponse!

Okay how did she know? Well Frédérique Marlène Kragbé designs dresses made with haute couture vintage fabric such as this cute baby doll dress. And you can find part of her collection at Caprice Vintage, a deliciously retro shop in the old city of Nice.

I went with Frédérique  to Caprice Vintage and it was love at first sight: a large choice of vintage clothes and accessories (by Dior and Courrèges between others), trendy sunglasses, Lanvin scarves, small furniture from the 70’s. I had to buy a gorgeous pink and black cocktail  dress that was just my size and I know that I will be back for more very soon! 

Si elle avait la réponse c’est que Frédérique Marlène Kragbé est une éco-styliste qui fabrique des robes à partir de tissus de luxe vintage de maisons de haute couture. Une partie de sa collection est une vente à la délicieuse petite boutique rétro et vintage Caprice Vintage qui se trouve dans le Vieux Nice.

J’allais découvrir Caprice Vintage avec Frédérique et ce fut le coup de foudre: une large choix de vêtements et d’accessoires (du Dior et du Courrèges entre autres), des lunettes très actuelles, des foulards Lanvin, et des petits objets des années 70. Je n’ai pas pu résister à une robe de cocktail rose et noire qui était juste à ma taille, et je sais que je ne vais pas tarder à retourner y faire un tour pour dénicher d’autres trésors.

Black Legend, Monaco

Grand opening of a new lounge bar / restaurant / club in Monaco , Black Legend inspired by the creative fever behind the Motown music in a New York’s atmosphere and decor with Live bands playing.

If the Black Legend is anything like it’s launch party on October 29th which I attended thanks to the invitation of Mr SoBlackTie it will soon become a new unmissable spot of Monaco by Night.

Si Black Legend ressemble un tant soit peu à sa soirée d’inaguration du 29 octobre à laquelle j’ai eu le privilège d’assister grâce à Mr SoBlackTie  il deviendra sans aucun doute une étape immanquable des soirées monégasques.
